About Ratih

Halo! My name is Ratih, and I am a native Indonesian speaker living in Indonesia. I have a deep passion for my country's rich culture and diverse languages, and I love sharing this knowledge with people from all around the world.

As your tutor, I am known for being exceptionally patient, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I understand that learning a new language can feel intimidating at first, which is why I always strive to create a warm and supportive environment where making mistakes is just part of the fun.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy cooking local Indonesian food and traveling. I love having engaging conversations about various topics, which makes our speaking practice feel natural and enjoyable. I cannot wait to meet you and guide you on your journey to mastering Indonesian!

About the lesson

Our lessons are fully designed to match your personal goals and learning pace. Whether you are an absolute beginner starting from scratch, a student preparing for school exams (LOTE), a professional needing everyday workplace basics, an expat moving to Indonesia, or a traveller planning a trip to Bali or other beautiful islands, I will adapt my teaching materials just for you.

I focus on bridging the gap between polite communication and the vibrant, everyday language spoken on the streets of Indonesia. I promise our classes will be interactive, encouraging, and completely stress-free!

*** WHAT WE WILL FOCUS ON ***
We will focus on active communication. You will not just memorise grammar rules; you will practise speaking real-life Indonesian from your very first session!

1. Practical Business Basics & Work Culture
• Everyday Workplace Indonesian: Learn how to greet colleagues, introduce yourself politely, and handle basic office small talk.
• Cultural Etiquette: Understand Indonesian social norms and manners to communicate respectfully in professional or social settings.

2. Casual Speaking & Street Smart Slang
• Real Conversations: Learn the everyday shortcuts (like ga, udah, aja) and expressive particles (like sih, deh, dong) that natives actually use.
• Real-Life Roleplays: Practice ordering food, bargaining at local markets, or chatting over coffee.
• Modern Texting: Master how Indonesians text on WhatsApp and talk on social media.

*** COMPREHENSIVE RESOURCES AFTER EVERY SESSION ***
To support your independent practice, I will share the following materials right after we finish each session:
• The PPT slides used during our class.
• A clear, easy-to-understand lesson summary.
• A customised vocabulary list tailored to our session.

*** AVAILABILITY & TIME ZONE NOTE ***
I offer highly flexible hours tailored to Australian students (AEST - Sydney/Melbourne time):
• Weekdays (Monday to Thursday): 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM AEST (Great for lunch breaks/afternoons) AND 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM AEST (Perfect for after-work).
• Fridays: 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM AEST.
• Weekends : Highly flexible throughout the afternoon and evening in Australia.

*Note: Since my slots can vary, please send me a direct message first with your timezone and preferred hours before scheduling a lesson. Let's find the perfect time for you! I look forward to helping you speak Bahasa Indonesia with confidence!

"I had already studied some Indonesian before starting these lessons, but I still struggled to speak spontaneously. Ratih helped me become more comfortable having longer conversations and corrected my mistakes in a very clear and encouraging way. I also learned many expressions that make my Indonesian sound more natural. I’m really enjoying the progress!"

Ratih is absolutely wonderful! So helpful, friendly, and always brings positive energy to every conversation. The study summaries provided afterwards are also incredibly useful. Learning Indonesian feels so much lighter and fun with them. If you're planning a trip to Bali or just want to pick up the language, Ratih is highly recommended!
