About Joel
Hi there! My name is Joel and I am from Barcelona. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Political Science at the University of Toronto. In the past, I have accumulated more than 10 years of teaching English as second language in Barcelona. Now, I hope to transmit Spanish to you as a native speaker.

As speaker of five languages (Catalan, Spanish, English, French, and Italian), I have always learnt by practice and exposure to new situations. Therefore, my teaching approach is student-centered and highly interactive. I incorporate a lot of conversation practice, real-life scenarios, and cultural context into my lessons. I use a blend of traditional and modern techniques, including multimedia resources, language games, and immersive activities to keep lessons engaging and effective. I tailor my teaching methods to each student's learning style and goals, ensuring a personalized learning experience.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of the previous session to reinforce retention. We then move on to new material, which could include vocabulary, grammar, or specific language skills depending on the student's needs. I like to incorporate a mix of listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises. For instance, we might start with a short dialogue or listening exercise, followed by a discussion, some targeted grammar practice, and a writing task. The lesson usually ends with a recap and a preview of what we'll cover next time. I also assign homework to reinforce what we've learned and to prepare for the next session.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive experience and my background in Political Science, which gives me a unique perspective on the Spanish language and its cultural nuances. With over 10 years of tutoring experience in a foreign language (English), I've developed a keen ability to identify and address the individual challenges students face. Now, I'm passionate about making learning Spanish a fun and rewarding experience, and I'm dedicated to helping my students achieve fluency and confidence in their language skills. Additionally, being based in Toronto, I offer both online and face-to-face lessons, providing flexibility to meet my students' preferences and schedules.
