About Barney

My teaching journey started at home, helping my younger brother through his GCSEs and A-Levels. Watching him go from confused to confident showed me I had a knack for explaining complex topics simply. This led me to teach at summer coding camps, then to MyTutor where I've maintained a 5-star rating across 60+ lessons. Fresh from graduating with First Class Honours in Computer Science with AI from Southampton, I remember exactly what it's like to face exam pressure. I know which topics trip students up because I've been there - and helped others through it. My A* grades in Computer Science and Chemistry, plus A in Maths, came from developing study methods I now share with my students.

About the lesson

I offer personalised online tutoring in GCSE Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Maths, and A-Level Computer Science. With over 60 lessons delivered through MyTutor maintaining a 5-star rating, I've developed an effective teaching approach that builds confidence alongside knowledge. My lessons are interactive and tailored to each student's exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR). I use presentations and real-world analogies to break down complex topics into manageable steps. Rather than just lecturing, I guide students to explain concepts back to me, testing them thoroughly as we progress to ensure interactivity throughout. Each 60-minute session typically follows this structure: recap of the previous lesson, new content, end-of-session quiz, and homework assignment. I graduated with First Class Honours in Computer Science with AI from Southampton University. I achieved A* in Computer Science and Chemistry, A in Maths at A-Level. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and have taught students from top schools including King's College School. Beyond exam preparation, I also teach practical programming skills including Python, web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), and introductory machine learning for students interested in building real projects.
