About Olivia

Hello! I'm Olivia and I'm currently on a gap year working as a laboratory technician and personal science and maths tutor. Next year I will be studying Physical Natural Sciences at Cambridge, focusing on Physics, Chemistry, and Material Science in my first year.

In the past, I have tutored GCSE sciences and maths, but now that I have successfully completed my A-levels—achieving 5 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics, and my EPQ—and received an offer to study at Cambridge, I am eager to support Year 12 students as well! I have experience in both one-to-one tutoring and teaching in larger groups. I volunteered as a MESME maths tutor, delivering weekly enrichment lessons to Year 7 students. Having recently completed my GCSEs and A-levels, I am well aware of the common mistakes students make and can provide targeted advice, particularly for exam preparation.

About the lesson

My lessons are suitable for learners of all ages and levels, from Year 7 to Year 12. Having gone through the UCAS application process myself, I can offer valuable guidance to A-level students interested in pursuing science at university e.g. personal statement advice.

I am highly flexible in my teaching approach, tailoring each lesson to the student’s individual needs and preferences. For example, some students prefer structured lessons where we work through a specification together, completing my carefully crafted worksheets to ensure full competency in exam-style questions while also deepening their understanding. Others prefer a more interactive approach, such as watching me tackle complex problems, receiving exam feedback, or asking me to explain challenging concepts—some even choose to learn ahead of their syllabus!

If a student struggles with a topic, I always start by checking their foundational knowledge, identifying gaps, and addressing those areas in future lessons. I firmly believe that no one is inherently "bad" at maths or science—success comes from mastering the basics and receiving the right guidance, which I strive to provide.

I also assist with more challenging homework questions. Students can send me problems they find difficult, and I provide worked solutions. In subsequent lessons, I introduce similar questions to reinforce new techniques until they feel confident.

Lesson lengths range from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the student’s preferences and learning goals.
