About Mara

I am a passionate violin tutor with 6 years of teaching and professional music experience, dedicated to helping students grow as confident, skilled, and expressive musicians. I teach school and college students at all levels, from beginners learning foundational techniques to advanced learners preparing for recitals, exams, and competitions.

One of the most fulfilling milestones in my career has been guiding students from struggling with posture, technique, or confidence to performers capable of playing with skill, expression, and emotional depth.

My teaching emphasises strong technical foundations, including posture, finger placement, bowing technique, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also nurturing creativity, musical interpretation, and expressive playing. I incorporate music theory, sight-reading, listening exercises, and performance practice to provide a holistic musical education.

I adapt lessons to each student’s pace, goals, and learning style, creating a supportive, patient, and inspiring environment. Teaching violin allows me to inspire confidence, discipline, and a lifelong passion for music in every student I teach.

About the lesson

I teach violin using a methodology based on motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, designed to nurture technically proficient, expressive, and confident musicians. Lessons are personalised to each student’s skill level, goals, and learning style, balancing structured technical exercises with creative exploration, improvisation, and performance opportunities.

Motivation is essential. I guide students to set achievable goals, track progress, and celebrate milestones, cultivating perseverance, self-confidence, and engagement. Communication ensures lessons are interactive, collaborative, and supportive, allowing students to share challenges, ask questions, and explore creative ideas freely.

Creativity is incorporated in every lesson through improvisation, composition, and interpretation exercises, helping students develop their artistic voice and emotional connection to music. Integrity emphasises disciplined, responsible practice and respect for learning, cultivating habits that support consistent progress and long-term excellence.

Alongside violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm exercises, and basic piano, giving students a holistic foundation in music. This methodology nurtures technical skill, artistic expression, confidence, and lifelong engagement with music.
