About Jam Marie

As a dedicated Mathematics teacher, I believe that learning is most effective when students are actively engaged and can connect concepts to real-life situations. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught Mathematics in Grades 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11, in face-to-face setting. I have worked as an English online teacher at 51Talk. Currently, I teach regular and Singaporean Mathematics online at Brain Dojo. I am also pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics and have completed 27 units, demonstrating my commitment to continuous professional growth. Beyond academics, my involvement in theater competitions, spoken poetry, music ministry, and other creative pursuits has enhanced my communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, allowing me to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and a genuine appreciation for Mathematics. I believe that every student can succeed when provided with meaningful learning experiences and appropriate guidance. To make lessons engaging, I design interactive activities, real-life problem-solving tasks, collaborative group work, and technology-enhanced learning experiences that encourage active participation. In face-to-face classes, I also integrate interactive educational games to maintain student motivation and enjoyment. For instance, I conduct a modified dodgeball game where students who get hit must answer a mathematics problem related to our lesson before rejoining the game. Each team is given a time limit, and the group with the most active participants or correct answers wins. This approach promotes both physical engagement and academic learning in a fun and competitive setting. I also encourage students to showcase their talents, such as singing, dancing, and crafting, depending on their preferences, as they explain the rules of integer operations. For online settings, I incorporate Singaporean Mathematics strategies, visual models, and digital learning tools such as Toy Theater and Polypad to help students better understand abstract concepts. I also use online platforms such as Bamboozle, Wordwall, Kahoot, and Wayground to assess students’ understanding. Lastly, I consistently analyze assessment results to identify learning gaps, provide targeted interventions, and adjust instruction to ensure that all students achieve their learning goals.
