About Jessica
I've been involved in music teaching since 2005, starting as a graduate music and education student. I received valuable experience at Kingswood College Music School in Makhanda (Grahamstown) from 2005-2008 where I taught all brass with a focus on trumpet. I have taught overseas in South Korea, and then volunteered at the Keiskamma Music Project in the Eastern Cape in 2014, teaching rural and talented students trumpet and French horn. Before Covid, I worked with two beginner adult students on the trumpet, one of which is a certified music therapist and pianist. Tanya had this to say: "Jess is an excellent teacher. She communicates musical concepts well, and teaches at the pace at which the student is capable of/ willing to go. Her trumpet playing is outstanding, and I felt confident learning to play alongside someone who puts such effort and heart into her own musicianship." I've been an online music teacher - students in South Africa and the USA - since Covid as well as assisting a special needs student here in Cape Town. His mother had this to say: "Jessica is learner-centred and seems to intuitively know how to keep my son on task and in a positive frame of mind. Every lesson is a small affirming step in his progress, and is supported by homework that is tailored to his needs. I appreciate how much Jessica cares about his development as a person as well as his development as a musician. I recommend her unreservedly." I play trumpet in Cape Town Concert Brass and have had many years playing in church worship groups - contemporary and African gospel styles. Completing a specialist diploma in trumpet teaching in late 2023 through the Royal Schools of Music, I am always excited to meet and work with new trumpet students old and young!

I love seeing students of all ages enjoy music making on the trumpet! It's super important to have a solid technical foundation, but don't worry - we will have lots of fun along the way! I'm looking forward to developing a program of music you enjoy, playing together, and growing together. If you are interested in exams, I am happy to prepare you for those. And if you would like to learn pop, contemporary genres or stick with classical I'm looking forward to developing that program for and with you!

Perfect! I would recommend Jessica to anyone looking to start trumpet lessons. Her patience, clear communication and a understanding with younger learners make her an outstanding instructor
Perfect! My wife gave me a trumpet for my birthday (I always wanted to play the trumpet) and I immediately started looking for a tutor. I found Jessica on superprof and our journey started. Jessica is an excellent tutor who understands just how difficult it is for a beginner to learn to play an instrument. I think my progress has been phenomenal considering that Jessica started tutoring me only 6 months ago. Although I practice as much as I can, it has all to do with the superb couching I get from Jessica with clear communication and always some motivational words when I struggle to get things right. Thanks Jessica!
