About Maya

I'm currently a university student studying English to become a teacher. I have consistently maintained grades at the top of my class using the writing techniques that I teach my students. I specialize in essay writing, close reading texts, poetry, and English literature. Some of my favourite eras of literature are the Elizabethan, Romantic, and Modernist periods.

I have three years of experience tutoring people of all ages ESL, elementary level English/language arts, and high school and university English. I have assisted students in applying for high school academies and special programs with much success. Many of my students have achieved amazing progress and grades without long-term tutoring.

About the lesson

In my three years of experience teaching students of all ages, I have found that many students know the elements that are required to write a great essay. However, what these students lack is the set of tools that are essential in accomplishing these elements. Without these tools, many students assume that academic writing is a code they can never crack and understand. Yet, this is not the case and is the reason why I am so passionate about teaching students writing tools that they can access and use for the rest of their academic journey.

If you have an essay due in the near future, I suggest you consider having two sessions. During our first session, you are not required to bring any drafts or ideas (although you certainly can if you’d like!) The purpose of the first session is to introduce the student to the fundamental tools and organizational structure of an essay. Once you have everything you need to write your essay, it is recommended that you return for a second session. During our second session, your writing will be accessed to ensure that you have correctly employed your new writing skills and tools. The ultimate goal is that you continue to practice what you have learned to perfection. I strive to provide students with efficient teaching that allows them to achieve fast results without long-term tutoring.

Although I have a wide range of techniques that I use to meet the learning needs of my students, it is not guaranteed that my teaching will be a perfect fit for you. However, what I can guarantee is my utmost patience, support, and kindness. Learning can be a vulnerable process, and it is therefore my goal to adapt to your needs for success.
