About Dr Peter

Hi everyone! I have a PhD in Economics and Finance and over ten years of professional teaching experience in higher education. I am a passionate educator and genuinely love watching students grow in confidence and achieve results they didn't think were possible.
I am a recipient of several teaching awards, including a Most Outstanding Teaching Evaluation award, and bring that same standard of teaching to every tutoring session.
I currently offer tutoring in Maths (including VCE Methods and Specialist). I also specialise in selective entry and scholarship exam preparation.
My approach is simple: assume zero knowledge and build confidence from there. With the right guidance, every student has the potential to succeed.
I keep group sizes small, capped at five students per class, so each session can be properly tailored to individual needs and skill levels. Face-to-face sessions are also available — please enquire within for details.

The best way to describe my methodology is through my prior student reviews!

"Each and every session he has energy, commitment and actually cares about each student’s progress. He is interesting and engaging, which is super important for this subject. The tutor is quite literally the best teacher I've ever had."

"Our tutor is smart, charismatic and insightful! He has a lot of experience and you can really tell he cares for his students!”

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have been teaching professionally for the last 20 years and privately for the previous five years.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

My teaching focus is primarily in mathematics; however, my interest lies in the real-life applications of maths, such as statistics and data analysis.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My role models include my dad, a teacher who inspired me to work hard, and my professors, who inspired me to complete my PhD.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

To be an excellent tutor, you need patience and a continued drive to explore more effective teaching methods. Further, a good tutor should always have a range of tools in his toolbox.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Question: What is the best way to eat an elephant?
    Answer: Piece by piece.
When something may seem difficult or overwhelming, don't look at the whole picture; instead, take it piece by piece!
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One of my biggest challenges is time management, especially during exams when students require extra classes.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject, or something completely different?

Website creation and designs. I also dabble in predictive modelling.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

The joy of seeing students succeed!
