About Jacob

I currently teach middle school mathematics at a virtual school in the west Michigan area. I have also worked as a math interventionist developing math skills in students who are below grade level. I also spent three years coaching high school basketball (2019-2022).

I graduated college in 2017 with two bachelor's degrees in finance and economics. After two years working in business, I discovered my passion for education, and made a career change.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me playing music or sports, or anything outdoors (hiking, camping, etc.).

About the lesson

I value connection and relationships, and I make an effort to build personal relationships with my students. I believe it's important to understand students' motivation and learning preferences in order to be a highly effective teacher.

Many times students' struggles with math are deeper than we realize. I have found that when students struggle with math, there are often foundational knowledge gaps that have not been addressed.

My approach is to first identify these gaps, and work to fill them while drawing connections to the students' grade-level content.

I do 30 minute lessons. Listed price is per hour (two sessions). Sessions can be back to back to make an hour-long lesson or they can be booked separate
