In A-Level History, I personally took the OCR exam board, and studied the following areas: French Revolution and French History, Modern British History and Politics, and Russian History. At university level, I have studied Modern European History from 1815-1990, and the World Economy and Its History. Therefore, I have the most experience and material with these topics, but lessons are also possible with different historical topics of different exam boards, as long as the student can inform me of the topic they are struggling or want to go through in the lesson.

About the lesson

With History lessons, the format of teaching and lesson structures differ according to the Year the student is enrolled in.

For A-Level, IB and IGCSE students,
history lessons will be formatted around exams.

Before each lesson, the student will be given notes on the topic they are struggling on, with key facts and dates they must memorize. In the lesson, we will go through these topics once more to test their memory and analyze these historical events in more depth, before moving onto an exam styled question. Usually, these questions will be from past papers, so that students can get more comfortable with exam-style writing skills. During the lesson, we will go through how to structure the essay, and write up a plan for the essay, at which point the student will complete an essay as homework before the next lesson. Feedback will be provided and this will be discussed in every following lesson.

For students that are considering taking History at University Level, I will also be able to give them advice regarding personal statements and finding the best universities for them.

For younger years,
Lessons will vary accordingly to the students’ / parents’ desire and reason for getting history tuitions.
These reasons could be to introduce their child to the subject, or reading classes that would allow the student to enjoy history more as a subject, and develop more confidence to read history books and writing book reviews or answering questions regarding what they have read.
I can give advice for the reading lists, but it is also possible for the parent or student to decide a book they want to read and go through in lessons.
