About Luis
I've had the privilege of playing around the world in multiple settings for classical and jazz! I began my playing career in middle school with the saxophone and quickly became fascinated with it. In high school I dedicated a large part of my day to practice and musical development.
I've played at the Kennedy Center, Monterrey Next Generation Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Vienne Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, and even won two DownBeat Awards in a group setting for the Best College Big Band - Graduate Division!
To date I've performed with Bobby Watson, Helen Sung, Mike Rodriguez, Kneebody, Anat Cohen, Tia Fuller, and more!
My goal is to provide a solid foundation of saxophone performance to your student and help develop the love of music that myself and many other musicians enjoy!

My first step is to assess the level of the student to see where we need to start and customize our lesson plans for each student!
With first time students, we would start by learning how to produce sound on the sax and how to read sheet music.
After the basics have been taught, we can then continue the customized approach by deciding if the student wants to focus on classical or jazz saxophone. Instruction in both is important to develop musical and technical proficiency, but if desired we can invest our focus on one path.
The typical lesson will be structured as follows:
-The student playing a prepared piece, pattern, or technique from their previously assigned homework
- Developing or learning techniques and musicality for jazz, classical, and pop saxophone
- Identifying areas for improvement and where the student wants to be developed
- Assigning practice homework for the student

Perfect! Luis did a great job with teaching my son saxophone, he was patient, kind and knowledgeable. Luis did a great job of gauging where at my son was in his skill level and gave him some good pointers and homework for in between lessons so he can continue to advance his skills.
