About Oskar
My academic journey started off troubled because I had to deal with ADHD and dyslexia. It felt like school would never come easily to me. That all changed when I joined the International Baccalaureate higher-level classes, which, to my surprise, were the international equivalent of AP. I was scared, expecting memorization and interesting topics. Instead, I was greeted with analysis and out-of-the-box thinking. I saw myself applying what I had learned to the real world, to my other classes, and in everyday conversations. My straight A’s reflected the genuine academic interest I had developed by thinking critically instead of memorizing. My love for writing grew so deep that I am now writing an article for Brown University’s Political Review and participating in multiple essay competitions.
When I first took the ACT, I scored a 23 on the English section. People told me it would be essentially impossible to get a higher score and that, on average, students only go up by 1-2 points. I almost gave up because of this, but after realizing I could start using what I learned from ACT prep websites in my writing and texting, I could develop my skills without constantly having a prep book open. I spent two months following a routine of studying for 3 hours a week and applying what I learned, and I scored a 34 on the retest.

My tutoring aims to develop the key skills (for grades 7th-12th graders) needed to be an effective writer, with a primary focus on critical thinking and analysis. A typical lesson plan will require a student to analyze different forms of writing and connect multiple literary sources. This will build the foundations of all good writing, which is the ability to spot where an idea came from and make unorthodox connections. I will never teach through pure memorization but rather through strengthening the mind. My ACT English prep can be memory-heavy at times, but exercises like reading texts to find errors in grammar or discussing overarching themes will balance that out.

When Oskar first started his historical studies, I was nervous. This feeling was quickly put to rest after I saw him find the meaning of propaganda cartoons. It is clear that Oskar applies all of what he learns in every one of his classes, and it helps him see things others don’t. He has found success in teaching kids a method of essay writing that does not require an intro until the end. This allows students to write down all their ideas without being within the confines of a thesis.
Oskar has a fantastic eye for details when reading. He can easily pick apart and analyze writing. He helps often when his classmates are in need and has aided them in making big work improvements.

I understand that some students do not have the means to pay for full-time tutoring. If I come across one of these situations, I am not opposed to offering some sessions for free.
