About Gerald
I have always had a philosophy of putting more in than I take out. I started my working life as an elementary teacher, then went to seminary and became a Lutheran Pastor. I returned to teaching after meeting an especially cranky congregation, earning a Master of Education in Special Education at West Chester University. If you google "Jerry Webster" you will find I am near if not at the top, as the special education expert for Thought.co (once About.com.) although I have not written for them for 4 years. I have also done quite a bit of tutoring--through Varsity Tutors (they have an agreement not to hire tutors in Vermont with the State of Vermont.)
I have two adult children and just one granddaughter so far.

After establishing reading levels, I like to to do Informal Reading Inventories to do diagnostics and discover where children are having difficulty with print. I then work with students, having them read leveled materials at their current level, to practice those skills that they are finding most difficult.
I feel it's critical to create a positive learning environment, which naturally must include positive personal interactions, inclusion of a child's interests in instruction, and lots and lots of praise and reinforcement.
