About James
For seventeen years I taught all levels of Latin and Greek at the University of Houston and for two decades was director of Classics, teaching Latin 1 to AP and English at The Kinkaid School. I have also been a professor at Rice University and the University of California at Santa Barbara. In the classroom and while tutoring, I have helped many students, including the neurodiverse, to succeed in standardized tests. I prefer a calm atmosphere for optimal learning; I'm flexible, compassionate; and I can offer strategies to overcome test anxieties. My students have called me "passionate, knowledgeable, and kind."

I've taught, tutored, and mentored high-school and undergraduate university students, in all levels of English, Latin, Greek, and courses about the ancient world. My tutoring process is highly interactive, taking cues from you, so that you solve your particular challenges, gain confidence, and enjoy the process of understanding literature, or writing college-level essays, or mastering a language. I can work with texts that you need to study or supply lesson plans.
