About the lesson

I'm a recent science graduate (MEarthSci (Hons) Geology with Planetary Science, first class) based in the Sheffield area, with an interest in all areas of science and a passion for sharing my knowledge of the Universe with others. As the great science communicator Carl Sagan said in The Demon-Haunted World, “Not explaining science seems to me perverse. When you're in love, you want to tell the world.”

Since November 2015 I've been doing face-to-face tutoring with students in GCSE Science and Maths and A-level Physics and Biology, with one undergraduate Geology student, through Sheffield-based agencies. My A-levels were in Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Biology, with an AS in Further Maths. I would be happy to tutor Physics and Biology to A-level standard and any science and Maths to GCSE standard, and believe my degree would give me sufficient knowledge to tutor Geology and Astronomy as well.

Aside from my tutoring I have experience in science outreach and communication through some classroom experience teaching Key Stage 3 maths, voluntary work at science outreach events (e.g. at Jodrell Bank), winning first place in the University category at the IOP's Young People's Physics Lecture Competition for my talk “The Physics of Saturn's Rings” (March 2014), and have published two articles (so far!) in Popular Astronomy magazine. Me and a coursemate also wrote a song about Earth's history that's been used in an online course across the world!
