I am a recent Cambridge graduate, where I studied Natural Sciences, specialising in Materials Science.

I like to tailor the methodology of my teaching to both the student and the subject itself.
With a larger time frame, it is useful to cover courses completely from start to finish. In these cases, we follow the exam board specification for each topic, but focus on understanding from the bottom up. Making sure the core understanding is there before building to questions.
Revision of an idea is very important in order to avoid forgetting key information. For this reason, I often revisit past topics covered in short discussions at the start of a session or throughout if there is overlap between topics.
If the student is more worried about a particular area of a course, I tend to begin with developing the fundamental understanding of key concepts before moving on to how this can be applied to exam style questions for each topic. I think this really helps with understanding as it really helps to understand the 'why?' behind equations and concepts.
