About Celeste North
I am a professional Actor, IG Influencer (20K+), Academic, Multilingual Linguist and Practising Interpreter. Apart from Italian, English and Swedish I also speak Mandarin, I love doing calligraphy!
My academic and performance sides complement each other and it is something I bring to all of my work. I have a deep understanding and love for the body and the way I see language and culture is that they are essential pillars to our health. Outside of teaching, I am a published Translator and a Legal, Medical and Social Work Interpreter, which are also fields that I love. I have recently done two short-films, which were super fun :D
I have very strong empathy, listening skills and flexibility and my wish is to go on a journey with you to help you grow or develop a new part of yourself through your target language and learn to feel your new culture!
Outside of work, I love spending time with friends and family, reading, kickboxing and baking.

Italian for all ages!
My priority is to help each student in an individual way: listen to your needs, form a plan based on your circumstances (general learning, school, an exam, work, speaking with your partner, become more fluent, etc.), know if you have any accessibility needs and understand overall how you are as a person and the ways in which you thrive for learning, if you prefer digital ways, reading, interacting with people, etc.
My teaching style is called SEE (inspired by "I see you" from Avatar, which signifies care and connection): S for Speaking / E for Embodiment / E for Environment. My focus is indeed on:
- SPEAKING.
- the EMBODIMENT of language and culture.
- developing together practical ways to create your own native-full ENVIRONMENT.
These three areas, unified, form my body-centred approach, that helps language learners absorb language as vibrations, sounds, emotions, behaviours, and culture as feelings, thoughts, stories, people, activities. Whilst your brain may "want" a second language, your body as a whole needs to feel it deep inside: it needs to use it, absorb it, consume it as much as possible and live in the language, as if knowing it is a life-or-death sort of deal.
SEE:
Through my body-centred approach, the most important element for language-learning is the active use of the language, regardless of what level you are at. I talk about two forms of active use:
1. The proactive use: when the language use starts from inside of you, for example you start talking to me or you do exercises.
2. The reactive use: when the language starts from outside of you and you are reacting to it, for example you are listening to me speak or you are listening to a podcast or a person asks you a question in the language and you have to reply.
Both the proactive and reactive use of the language are training your body to communicate through the active energy of language.
The work we will be doing together will allow you to work on the proactive and reactive uses of language whilst helping you apply the SEE approach in your own life and find freedom in your new language and culture!
