About Safiya
I've spent years working with young people; as a Team Leader at Charlton Athletic Community Trust for 3 years, as an active member of my youth group, and now as a Teaching Assistant at a Kumon centre. I'm DBS certified and have completed training in child safeguarding, so you and your family can feel confident I take this responsibility seriously.
I'm deeply committed to helping my students understand, not just memorise. If one method doesn't work, we'll try another, we won't stop until it clicks. I believe there are many routes to learning, and to achieving your goals, and that's just as true for Maths and Chemistry as it is for anything else.
I'm dyslexic, and growing up I often found traditional learning structures difficult. But I'm proof that a different way of thinking isn't a barrier, it's just a different route to the same destination. Thinking differently doesn't make an idea any less valid or "wrong," and that's part of what's kept me going, even when things didn't go to plan: a resilience to keep working towards my goals and keep developing.
The world is full of opportunity, but you have to feel comfortable learning to go and grab it. We're all beginners at some point, and that's not something to be ashamed of — it just means the growth ahead of you is endless.

My teaching approach is built on first-principles thinking: we start with what we know to be true, then build up from there step by step, so there's no room for confusion or argument over the fundamentals. I use this to break down GCSE Maths and Chemistry into clear, logical steps, drawing on real examples from my Chemical Engineering background to make concepts click. Lessons run for 1 hour (extendable to 1.5). I currently work as a Teaching Assistant at a Kumon centre, supporting students aged 4 to 16, and hold a BEng in Chemical Engineering plus an MSc in Engineering Management, tailoring each session to the student's level, confidence and pace.
