About Lisa
I have over 10 years of experience as a reading tutor and hold a degree in Social Psychology, which helps me understand how students learn best. My approach is patient, supportive, and tailored to each learner's needs, whether building confidence, improving comprehension, or strengthening fluency. For those students in grades k-5. I teach using the science of reading method. This consists of letter sound recognition, beginning with individual letters and moves on to vowel teams, r-controlled vowels and so forth. This gives the student who may be a little behind in their reading skills, the ability to understand how phonetics work, enabling them to use their newly learned skills to decipher words they do not know. We also work on commonly used sight words and reading comprehension. I also teach reading comprehension for those students who have mastered the above skills.
