About the Tutor

Phoenix Cheshier is a dedicated and patient tutor with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students thrive. He has experience in reading and writing (across all grade levels) and math (up to Algebra). He specializes in creating personalized learning plans that build confidence and mastery.

Experience and qualifications

Tutored part-time for K-12 in math, reading, and writing at The Tutoring Center in Covington 2022-2023, and currently tutors there in the summer.

Part-time math tutor at Eastern Washington University’s developmental math tutoring lab.

Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Mathematics Education with a Middle-Level Math Endorsement at Eastern Washington University. (3.88 GPA. Class of 2027). Graduated from Tahoma High School in 2023 with distinguished honors and a 3.92 GPA. Familiar with online learning platforms and digital tools.

Tutoring Structure

Initial Assessment Conducted during the first session using MobyMax’s placement test for each subject (grades K-8) or Varsity Tutors diagnostic assessment (grades 9-12).

Estimated time: 75 minutes.
Includes academic review and goal setting. Helps identify strengths and gaps, and determines the best path to take with the student. Weekly

Schedule Frequency: 1-3 sessions per week (based on student needs), but usually 2-3. Session Length: 70 minutes per session.

Platform: All sessions conducted online via LearnCube & MobyMax Topics Covered Tailored to students’ curriculum and goals

Each section of the tutoring session will generally be composed of a different subject (math, reading, writing, or grammar) determined by their diagnostic test results.

All subjects for grades K-8 worksheets come from MobyMax. Grade 9-12 math worksheets come from KutaSoftware.

Session Breakdown

Section 1 (30 minutes). This is the subject your student needs the most help with, determined by diagnostic test and parental request.
Section 2 (15 minutes). Second subject
Section 3 (15 minutes). Third subject

Example:
Section 1: Reading for 30 minutes

Section 2: Language Arts for 15 minutes

Section 3: Math for 15 minutes


Progress Monitoring Reassessment is conducted at the last session of each month. Evaluates academic growth, engagement, and retention

Adjusts learning plan based on progress and evolving goals

Materials Needed iPad/Tablet with a stylus, OR laptop/computer with a pen tablet.
(Stylus/pen tablet might not be needed; it depends on whether the student needs help with handwriting.)

Headphones to minimize distractions and improve audio clarity

Stable wi-fi connection

LearnCube app or website for online sessions

MobyMax website/app. My roster will create an account for the student.

App of choice for writing on documents. Recommendation: freenotes. (This might not be needed; it just depends on the student.)
