About Helin
I am currently an undergraduate student at a liberal arts college who is intending to pursue a 3+3 duel engineering degree with WashU St.Louis. I am on track to receive a B.A. in computer science, a B.S. in mechanical engineering, and a M.A. in aerospace engineering.
I have always been interested in the fields of STEM. In high school, I took 13 AP classes, including AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science A, AP Environmental Science, AP Statistic, and AP Psychology. I participated in numerous STEM extracurricular including FIRST Robotics, Destination Imagination, National Science Olympiad, AMCs, and many more. I took the college entrance test SAT twice (during 7th grade and 11th grade) and scored 800 (the highest score possible) in the math section on both occasions.
I started private tutoring when I was in 8th grade. I tutored almost every subject imaginable: math, writing, English, physics, Chinese, clarinet, music theory just to name a few. During my busiest period, I was tutoring 5 different students for around 11 hours every week. Then, in 2020, I co-founded a tutoring non-profit organization name UpGrade, where volunteer tutors provide free tutoring to local kids who have been affected by lockdown academically.

During my lessons, I like to include graphical/video explanations, example problems, and step-by-step solutions. When solving mathematical and physical problems, I like to employ the IDEA method. IDEA stands for Interpret, Develop, Evaluate, and Assess. By using this approach, I ensure that the student can fully understand the "why" behind the solution, and not just the process of solving the problem itself. I pause frequently during my lessons to ensure that everything is being explained clearly, and that the student feels comfortable with the pace we are moving.
