About Christopher

Hello! I'm Chris, and I'm excited to share my love for teaching with you. I spent over five years teaching physics and science, alongside two years of teaching English, before transitioning to software development. Teaching has always been close to my heart, and I genuinely miss the connection and growth that comes with helping students learn and achieve their goals.

Though my primary work now is in software, my enthusiasm for teaching never left. This is why I’m teaching in my spare time and supporting students in their journey to mastering English and learning about other places and cultures. My background also includes various hobbies like traveling, snowboarding, football, climbing, poker and chess. I speak native English, have a good level of Spanish, and I'm learning Japanese. These interests fuel my understanding of language, culture, and effective learning methods, helping me bring a well-rounded perspective to each lesson.

If you're looking for an experienced and approachable tutor who is passionate about language and learning, I'd be thrilled to work with you!

About the lesson

I can provide private (or group) English lessons to students at all levels and ages. I am a flexible teacher who will personalise lessons for students to make them fun and can help students learn the way they want to. Lessons typically last 45 minutes. Notes on lessons and homework will be provided after.

If desired, I offer an accelerated learning course of the English language that aims to get students communicating as quickly as possible, without worrying about correctness initially. This enables students to communicate in English in real world situations, which will then accelerate their learning further. Once students are able to communicate then we can work on correctness and nuances. I have worked on this strategy myself while learning other languages - I speak Spanish well enough, I'm learning Japanese and I also know a little French and Dutch.

My hourly rate for private English lessons is £20, which includes personalized lesson planning, tailored resources, and optional notes and assignments to support your progress between sessions.

While I primarily offer one-on-one lessons, I’m happy to arrange small group sessions at a rate of £10 per person per hour, with a maximum of three students. This option works well if you have friends or classmates with similar learning goals, and it allows for a collaborative yet focused learning environment.

I recognize that tutoring can be a financial commitment, and my motivation for teaching comes from a genuine enjoyment of the process, not solely from income. If you’re in a situation where regular lessons may be financially challenging, please feel free to reach out. Occasionally, I’m able to offer “pay as you feel” sessions when my schedule allows, giving you the flexibility to contribute what you can.
