About William
I am a fully qualified (QTS) Science teacher with over 4 years' experience teaching GCSE Science and A-Level Biology. I have a BSc in Biomedical Science and a PGCE in Biology, and I am DBS checked.
I became a teacher because I was tired of watching capable students conclude they were "just not a science person" when the real problem was that nobody had shown them how the subject and its exams actually work. I have taught students who were told to concentrate harder without anyone explaining how, including students with ADHD, and I build lessons around focus, memory and manageable steps rather than willpower.
My approach is friendly, supportive and results-driven. I want students to feel comfortable admitting what they do not understand, because that is the only place real progress starts. I have worked with a wide range of abilities, from students aiming simply to pass to those pushing for the very top grades, and I am equally happy with both.
Outside of subject content I also teach revision technique and exam strategy explicitly, since these are the skills that carry students through every subject rather than just mine.

I am a QTS qualified Science teacher with over 4 years' experience teaching GCSE Combined and Triple Science across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as A-Level Biology. I hold a BSc in Biomedical Science and a PGCE in Biology, and I am DBS checked.
Because I am still teaching in a secondary school every day, my lessons are built around what actually gains and loses marks in the current specifications. In my experience most students do not have a knowledge problem. They understand the content in class and then lose marks in the exam through misread command words, unstructured six-mark answers, missing units, and required practicals they only half remember. Those are the things we work on directly.
A typical session starts by diagnosing exactly where marks are being dropped, then moves into targeted past paper questions with model answers, clear explanations of the underlying concepts, and the specific habits that stop marks leaking away. Every session is planned around the individual student's weakest areas rather than marching through the whole syllabus.
I also work well with students who find focus difficult, including students with ADHD. I build lessons around short, manageable steps with clear structure and visible progress, which improves both confidence and retention.
Lessons are 60 minutes and suit students in Years 9 to 13 working towards AQA, Edexcel or OCR specifications, whether they are aiming to secure a pass or push for the top grades.

My daughter is currently in Year 10 studying for her GCSEs, and we found William when she needed extra support with biology. Since starting lessons with him, we’ve seen a real improvement in both her understanding and confidence.
What I appreciate most about William’s teaching is how clearly he explains topics and how patient he is. My daughter often struggled with certain concepts in school, but William breaks everything down in a way that makes it much easier for her to grasp.
One thing that really stood out was how much more confident she became after just a few sessions—topics she once found difficult now feel manageable, and she actually enjoys learning them.
I would highly recommend William to any parent looking for a supportive, knowledgeable tutor. He has made a big difference to my daughter’s GCSE preparation.Mr Thomas is an excellent science tutor. He has been giving my daughter lessons over zoom for a few weeks and he teaches in a style that she can understand. My daughter is neurodiverse and has struggled in class so by getting her extra tuition we are confident she will meet the grades she needs. I would highly recommend Mr Thomas to anyone who is looking for a tutor in science.
William has been tutoring my son for a while now, and the progress we’ve seen has been fantastic.
What really stands out is his ability to explain things clearly and adapt his teaching to suit my son’s needs. He’s patient, encouraging, and creates a supportive learning environment that has really helped build both understanding and confidence.
One moment that stood out was when my son was struggling with a particular topic; William took the time to revisit the basics and explain it in a different way, and it finally clicked. Since then, my son’s confidence in the subject has improved significantly.
I would highly recommend William to any parent looking for a reliable, effective, and supportive tutor.I’ve had the pleasure of knowing William through his biology lessons, and I can confidently say he is an outstanding tutor. He explains complex topics in a clear and engaging way, always adapting his teaching style to suit the student’s needs.
What really sets William apart is his patience and dedication—he takes the time to ensure you truly understand the material rather than just memorizing it. During our sessions, he created a supportive environment where I felt comfortable asking questions and building confidence.
I highly recommend William to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and encouraging biology tutor.View more recommendations
