About Deborah

Hi, I’m Deborah, a qualified secondary school Maths teacher based in Kent with several years of experience tutoring students from GCSE through to A-level.
I’ve been tutoring since university, working with students across a range of exam boards and abilities. I specialise in building confidence, breaking down tricky topics into clear steps, and helping students develop exam technique — not just memorising methods, but actually understanding the maths.
As a classroom teacher, I know exactly what examiners are looking for and where students commonly lose marks. I tailor every lesson to the student, whether that means going back to foundations, pushing for top grades, or providing calm, structured support for students who feel anxious about maths.
Outside of teaching, I love staying active — I do aerial hoop and have previously performed bachata, which I think reflects my teaching style: disciplined, creative, and encouraging. My lessons are focused, friendly, and judgement-free — questions are always welcome.

About the lesson

To help students make the most progress, I ask them to share the topics they find most challenging. I then prepare structured explanations and carefully selected questions to model how to approach different types of exam problems.
Students are given plenty of opportunity to practise independently, with clear guidance and feedback throughout. Lessons are interactive and paced to suit the student, with a strong focus on confidence, problem-solving, and exam technique.
