About Carla

I have loved languages since I was but a girl! Growing up in a bilingual family (Mum's German, Dad's British), I went on to study English linguistics and language teaching at Freiburg University. Besides a State examination degree (German teacher qualification for grammar schools) in English and music, I have a Master's degree in Music Teaching and am certified as a teacher of German as a second language. Most of my teaching experience I gained abroad: by teaching English in Spain, German in Russia and Australia, both languages in Indonesia. Until now, learning languages is one of my greatest passions in life. In addition to (somewhat dusty) Spanish, Italian and French, I speak Indonesian and, of course, German and English.

About the lesson

When it comes to face-to-face teaching, I believe in the concept of 'immersion': Even beginners' classes I teach (almost) exclusively in the target language. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are inferred from contextual examples, applied, practiced and finally analysed. My common goal for all students is to reduce timidity and the fear of making mistakes, to strengthen self-confidence as well as the courage to experiment and play with the language. Personal learning goals and needs of each student are discussed at the beginning of the course. Depending on your needs, lessons can focus on certain aspects, e.g.
- grammatical structures
- vocabulary training
- everyday language / technical language / written language / translation
- pronunciation
- individual skills (writing, reading, speaking, listening comprehension)
- the cultural context
- support with everyday situations in the target language
- presentation skills ,...
The selection of teaching materials and exercises is based on your individual learning goals. You are also welcome to suggest a certain textbook to work with.

Carla unterrichtet mit Herz. Zusammen haben wir Workshops geben, und ich durfte sie auch bei Projekten erlebt, wo sie ihre Schüler*Innen begeistert und unterstützt. Sie weiß eine spielerische Herangehensweise mit ihrem umfangreichem Wissen und ihre Erfahrung zu verbinden.
Hinzukommt ihre sprachliche Flexibilität. Englisch beherrscht sie wie eine Muttersprachlerin. Aber sie geht auch jeden Schüler ein, sodass der Austausch selber Interesse und ein Gefühl des Verstanden-Seins erweckt.
Ich kann Carla nur wärmstens empfehlen.
