About Sammy

I'm a qualified English teacher and Goldsmiths/King's College alumnus with experience teaching all levels from Y7 to Sixth Form. I have a particular specialism in Shakespeare, focusing on him for my BA and MA, both of which received distinctions. I am currently in the process of putting together a PhD proposal about the comic actors in Shakespeare's company. My subject knowledge has been consistently called 'outstanding' in lesson observations. Taster lessons are free.

I also teach chess, and am a qualified Developmental Instructor with FIDE.

About the lesson

My teaching degree informs my online tutoring style: I make use of starters and plenaries at the beginning and end of the lesson, to engage the student and retrieve prior knowledge. I like to teach with slideshows to structure the lesson, with discussion points and writing tasks, as well as the occasional Blookets or Kahoot, which I believe are valuable tools for checking progress. As a professional English teacher, I have a good working knowledge of the OCR and AQA syllabuses from Year 7 to A-level.
