About Anna

The relationships I build with my students have always been one of the most important parts of teaching for me. I care about every student I teach and want them to achieve the very best they can.

Literature has always been a big part of my life. I have a particular interest in Romanticism, Victorian literature and the poetry of Sylvia Plath. I also have a love of learning and am always looking to widen my knowledge in other subjects. I am currently studying a second Master's degree in Psychology, which is further developing my understanding of people, learning and behaviour.

Throughout my career, I have taught students from a wide range of different nationalities and backgrounds, both in the UK and in the Middle East. Living and working abroad has allowed me to experience different perspectives and cultures, something which has influenced how I connect to my students.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy travelling and experiencing new countries. I am also a huge fan of live music and concerts, and I am an animal lover.

About the lesson

I believe that successful tutoring begins with getting to know the student. I take time to understand their strengths, areas for development, and confidence levels, and tailor each lesson accordingly. My lessons are typically one hour and always adapted to the needs of the student I am teaching.

My approach is supportive, patient and encouraging, while also providing opportunities to stretch and challenge. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, expressing their ideas and making mistakes. In Literature particularly, I encourage students to develop their interpretations of the text and then teach them how to turn those ideas into perceptive analysis and develop their critical voice.

With 18 years’ teaching experience alongside my work as an examiner, I combine strong subject knowledge with effective exam preparation. I teach English Language and Literature at KS3 and GCSE, IGCSE First Language and Literature, and AS/A2 Literature, supporting students who find English challenging as well as those aiming for the highest grades.
