About Paula
Hi! I'm Paula. I am a qualified Primary Teacher with a PGCE and QTS, with experience teaching across KS1 and KS2. I have taught in Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6, including preparing Year 6 pupils for their KS2 SATs, so I have first-hand experience of the expectations children face in their final year of primary school. The bulk of my experience comes from working as a class teacher in a local school in Birmingham. I have also worked as a subject lead and have experience providing private tuition, including 11+ preparation.
I’m a friendly, calm and approachable person, and I really enjoy getting to know each child and their individual personality. As a younger teacher, I often find that children feel comfortable around me, particularly those who may be shy, quiet or lacking in confidence. I’m naturally quite laid-back, so I want children to feel able to ask questions, make mistakes and be themselves without feeling embarrassed.
Teaching has always been a big part of my life. Before becoming a primary teacher, I worked as a singing teacher and completed a Music degree specialising in vocals. Although it might seem quite different from teaching English, it taught me a lot about working one-to-one with students, building confidence and adapting the way I teach to suit different personalities.
My primary teaching experience includes teaching Year 2, with particular experience in Years 5 and 6, as well as SATs and 11+ preparation. I have a strong understanding of the UK Primary National Curriculum and the expectations children face throughout primary school.
I’m originally from the UK and currently spend a lot of my time travelling, which is one of the reasons online teaching works so well for me. Outside of teaching, I love music, singing and travelling.
For me, tutoring isn’t about making a child sit through another hour of school after they have already finished school for the day. I want my students to enjoy their lessons, feel comfortable with me and gradually become more confident in their own abilities. One of the best parts of teaching is seeing a child go from believing they “can’t do” something to realising that they actually can.

My lessons are friendly, supportive and tailored to each individual child. As a younger teacher, I find that I am able to build a natural rapport with children and create a relaxed environment where they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and being themselves.
I am a qualified Primary Teacher with QTS and experience teaching across the primary age range, including teaching Year 2 and specialising in Years 5 and 6. I also have experience providing private tuition, including SATs and 11+ preparation.
I offer online English and literacy tuition for primary-aged children, covering reading, comprehension, spelling, grammar, punctuation, writing and other areas of the English curriculum. I also offer KS2 SATs preparation, including targeted practice, exam-style questions and support with areas your child finds more challenging, as well as preparation for the English elements of 7+ and 11+ entrance exams.
I believe children learn best when they actually enjoy their lessons. I aim to make sessions engaging and interactive while still ensuring we are making real progress. Every lesson is adapted to the individual child, whether they need help filling gaps in their learning, additional challenge, SATs or entrance exam preparation, or simply some extra confidence.
Lessons are typically 50 minutes, with a variety of activities throughout to maintain engagement and make the most of our time together.
