About Emily
I'm Emily! My interest in the nuts and bolts of reading and writing emerged through my work with neurodiverse children. I saw some of the brightest students struggling to read simple text. It reminded me of my own school days; how terrible it is to feel misunderstood by teachers and classmates. This led me to Orton-Gillingham, which is known among educators and linguists as the gold standard in reading instruction. I have a master's degree and over 12 years experience working in neurodiversity, special education, and the literary arts. I have been an elementary school English teacher, creative writing facilitator, special needs counselor, and caregiver. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham which is the gold standard in remedial reading and writing instruction.

Emily responds to the unique and valid perspectives that children and neurodiverse learners bring to the material. This program is a rare blend of research-based methodology and empathic insight to support the child's dignity and happiness.
We start with an assessment of your child's reading, writing, and comprehension skills. We might also review their educational history and previous reports. Your child's individualized lesson plan is soon ready.
Lessons are 45 minutes, 2 to 4 times weekly. This is timing that supports focus, skill building, and meaningful progress. We won't complicate the process with graphs or jargon. What matters is routine and expert instruction. The proof is in the pudding.
For many families, virtual lessons are what make it possible to maintain the frequency and longevity that are essential to Orton-Gillingham. Emily Literacy meets this need with our expert online instruction.
We are small and specialized. This means families receive a service that is authentic, attentive, and invested.
