About Shannon
I am a published author with a BA from SUNY Oswego in English Language and Literature. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Societies. I was a Teaching Assistant for an upper division English course, Genre - History - Theory, that involves doing research on the boundary-breaking and constricting interface of Zoom teaching during the pandemic. My research, "A Reflection Between Teaching the Real and the Digital" was nominated for a Dean's Writing Award. Additionally, I was the Editor-in-Chief of the women's magazine at SUNY Oswego, and was an Editor of two other literary journals. I have presented my work in publishing at the Association for Writers & Writing Program's annual conference and the FUSE National Colloquium. My work was nominated for a CLMP award in Best Magazine Debut. I have worked with authors, academics, and journalists from around the world. My writing spans between the genres of poetry, creative nonfiction, culture, lifestyle, fashion, politics, and human interest.

I teach for levels through 7th - 12th grade, as well as college and in the professional world. A typical lesson plan for a class on critical analysis of literature might include a short story, supplemental academic articles related to the story, and then an interactive discussion with an activity. For creative writing, I may provide a short prompt or quote and ask a student to write two lines, or list words of association and then workshop. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I am highly flexible and enjoy taking unconventional approaches to understanding material. My methodology involves getting to the root of a student's specific interests and desires and tailoring plans towards that. I don't believe there are always specific rules when it comes to learning and incorporating a playful spirit is important to me.
