About Douglas
I am a published author, a lover of language and a purist. One of the most beautiful things we have to enjoy in this world is literature. Words inspire, encourage, comfort and lift us. The purer the art, the greater the lift. That comes from writers putting in the hard work to learn how to write well and properly.

I have my students read selections they have been assigned in their regular curriculum, help them identify the literary elements and prompt them to discuss the themes in it.
The feedback from the student is done in writing, with attention to grammar, spelling, correct word use and style. I do this interactively, going through the response with the student, prompting identification of items that are missed, and correcting the writing with the student.

Students should be familiar with reference materials: dictionary, thesaurus and style manuals.
