About John
I am a writer by trade, but I also enjoyed movies, so I started writing those, and I even went to film school and eventually got a Master's degree in Screenwriting. In between film and TV jobs in Los Angeles, I filled my time with substitute teaching and was really good at it. When I moved back to Florida, I taught several years of high school (junior year English) and then taught film & writing classes at the college level. I produced, wrote and directed an award-winning feature film documentary about the $2 bill, and I also published a humor fiction novel about cancel culture. I no longer teach except for the occasional adjunct college course, but I still enjoy it and look forward to any online or local opportunity I am provided; I have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with students.

The main thing is to understand the student's needs, capabilities, drive and whether they are a more visual learner or if conversation and explanation work best. Once that has been established, I mold my lessons to fit the student so that we can get the best results. Do they like puzzles and games? I can make exercises that fit that mold. Is it something a creative power points, or even a short video I can create can help with? I want my students to enjoy their time with me because that will make them want to come back, and it will give them a better chance to be engaged and learn more - whether they realize it or not! I try to provide value for the students for the times they are with me.
