About Camandres

I originally became an English Tutor at the age of fourteen because I noticed many children studying at private bilingual schools were struggling with something that was natural for me: subjects like Math, Science, Social Studies, History, and many others, in English. Now, I want to be your teacher.

I lived in China for seven years because my wife is Chinese. In China, I worked at several English training centers and at a Foreign Languages University. I was the Director of Teaching Affairs at WECI International English, which had six branches at the time. During the last three years in China, I worked as an ESL Art Teacher for young learners. While in China, I was awarded a plaque as "Best Educator 2018" by Greenfoot International Environmental Awareness Group, where I volunteered.

My teaching career started at the age of nineteen when I became a volunteer English teacher at the kindergarten & primary school sponsored by my congregation. I worked there for twelve years, by the end of which, I had become the head teacher of the Middle and Highschool English Departments. Parallel to that, I studied Industrial Design and graduated with a minor in Packaging Design and a minor in Occupational Health and Ergonomics.

While working at that school I received intensive teaching training, assisted to many workshops and took short courses on ESL. Finally, in 2008 I did the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), from the University of Cambridge and 2009 I started teaching ESL and subjects in English at La Salle University and at El Bosque University in Bogota, Colombia.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching relies on my extensive experience using the Constructivist, Task-based and Discovery Learning teaching methods.

I was trained in the Constructivist Teaching Method so I believe that getting my students involved in the learning process by tailoring the lesson according to their needs and abilities is paramount.

To improve my teaching approach I also received training on task-based learning. Additionally, while taking the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), from the University of Cambridge, I learned about Discovery Learning which is a lot of fun so I use it a lot and I think it is compatible with the constructivist and task-based teaching methods.

DETAILS:

Cost of Lesson: $45 /hr

Additional travel costs: $10* /hr

Webcam Rate: $35 /45 min

Cost for 5 hrs of lessons: $225*

Cost for 10 hrs of lessons: $450*

CONDITIONS:

* TRAVEL EXPENSES will be WAVED IF lessons are BOUGHT AS A PACK or
if WITHIN 5 KM FROM WHERE I LIVE. (Each session has to be OVER 2 hours long)

** Group classes rates will vary depending on the number of students. No group-lesson will have more than four students per session.
