About Angela
Hi, my name is Angela Acha! I'm an undergrad at the University of Texas of Austin. I'm also a Mesquite, Tx native and have gone through all 12 years of education in my hometown. One summer, I was torturing my brother when a family friend asked if I could tutor their kid too. This led to me teaching a small group of four kids over the summer, improving their reading and literacy before the new school year. I now transferred these skills to teach a group of elementary school girls about STEM, and within a year I taught one of the largest classes (45 students) within my organization. I realize that my growth in teaching has been rapid, but with each new stage, I take a moment to asses myself and constantly find ways to improve my skills.

In my teaching plan, I assign reading-specific reading materials based on the student's current reading levels and gradually increase the reading difficulty to improve reading comprehension and literacy. I also encourage students to read books of their choosing to allow students to have creative expression. Using the books of the student's choice, I create writing prompts for the student to write mini-essays, allowing them to develop their critical thinking, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and overall essay skills. A typical session will start with 15 min of silent reading followed by a discussion of the reading material. Next, depending on the student's grade level, I will teach sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary lessons. At the end of the lesson, I will assign a writing prompt for the student to write on their own time, and I will review the essay in our next tutoring session. Additionally, my lesson plans can change depending on the academic need and specific area of focus for each student.
