About Mandy

I am a Psychology honours student at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. I possess the experience of being an assistant lecturer and tutor for a minimum of 2 years. I am very passionate about education, more specifically English, Psychology and History.
I have given revision seminars and held classes with students of about 50. I have also had individual consultations with struggling students who have difficulty understanding the coursework. I have supervised students within a university structure, and also supporting students with their essays, grammar, assignments and tests.
Additionally, I have mentored students who had doubts about their potential to get over their fears.
The above has helped me grow as an individual and also acquire much-needed experience in assisting students to achieve their academic excellence.

About the lesson

The teaching method I use is based on participative, content-focused and learner-centred methods. I conduct my classes not as instructional but I give my students the opportunity to engage with each other, with the course work and with me, as the teacher. The students are given an opportunity to ask questions during class. I see my students not only as empty vessels who have come to collect information, in contrast, I view my them as active agents of learning, who not only take in the information and knowledge given but also challenge my thinking capacity as a teacher because as a human being you can never be "too educated" . That way as a teacher I can also learn from the student and vice versa.
My classes are made up of two-way communication, that way my students do not only cram what they learn but the aim is for them to understand the information for future reference. The Methods which I use encourage the involvement of learners, as a teacher I am both a learner and a teacher.
