My name is Marissa, and my approach as a tutor is supportive, structured, and practical. I focus on helping students feel less overwhelmed while building skills they can actually use on their own. Many of the students I work with are capable and motivated but feel stuck, anxious, or unsure how to organize their work or start an assignment. My goal is to make expectations clear and help students gain confidence in their academic abilities.
My teaching style is collaborative and individualized. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. Instead, I meet students where they are and adjust my approach based on their learning style, goals, and current challenges. I use clear explanations, guided practice, and step-by-step strategies to break complex tasks into manageable pieces.
A typical lesson depends on the student’s needs. For writing support, we may review an assignment prompt together, outline ideas, organize arguments, and revise for clarity, structure, and APA formatting. For psychology tutoring, lessons may include reviewing key concepts, preparing for exams, clarifying confusing material, or connecting course content to real-world examples.
