About Rachel
Hi, I'm Rachel! I'm originally from Newcastle and moved to London to gain more experience working with children and to develop my teaching skills. As a Psychology graduate with experience tutoring students from primary to GCSE level, I'm passionate about helping young people succeed both academically and personally.
I believe school is one of the most important stages of a child's development. Every student deserves someone who believes in them, understands their individual needs, and supports them throughout their educational journey. My aim is to build positive relationships with my students so they feel comfortable, confident and never isolated. When children feel supported, they're more willing to ask questions, enjoy learning and achieve their full potential.
Outside of tutoring, I love reading and often spend my free time getting lost in a good book, which has helped develop my love of English and literature. I'm also passionate about creating realistic food artwork, as I enjoy being creative and paying attention to detail. I was a competitive swimmer for six years, which taught me discipline, resilience and the importance of hard work—qualities I now bring to my teaching.
Those who know me would describe me as kind, caring, patient and supportive. Through my experience tutoring, working with children and providing childcare, I've developed strong leadership skills and enjoy creating a positive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged. For me, tutoring is about much more than improving grades—it's about helping students grow in confidence, enjoy learning and believe in themselves.

I believe every student learns differently, so my lessons are tailored to each individual's needs, goals and learning style. Whether a student needs help building confidence, preparing for an exam or aiming for top grades, I create engaging and supportive lessons that help them make steady progress.
My teaching combines clear explanations, worked examples, interactive activities and regular practice to ensure students fully understand each topic before moving on. I use past paper questions, retrieval practice and constructive feedback to develop exam technique and identify areas for improvement. My background in Psychology helps me understand how students learn best, allowing me to adapt my teaching to suit different abilities and learning styles.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I also offer 30 minute sessions for younger learners or also 90 or 120 minutes if you would like. Every lesson is structured with clear objectives, opportunities for practice and time to review progress.
I am a BSc Psychology graduate (2:1) with extensive experience teaching students aged 5–16. I currently tutor English and Maths in both one-to-one and mixed-ability classroom settings, including preparing students for 11+ entrance examinations and supporting GCSE English students. I also hold an Enhanced DBS, safeguarding training and first aid certification.
My lessons are suitable for primary school pupils, 11+ students and GCSE English students. Whether your child needs additional support, wants to improve confidence or is striving for the highest grades, I provide personalised lessons designed to help them achieve their full potential in a positive and encouraging environment.
