About Dr Chelsea

Recognized for her performance and teaching accomplishments, Mezzo-Soprano Chelsea Melamed Cushman is thrilled to call Toronto her new home. This season, Chelsea will sing the titular role in Cenerentola with COSA Canada, and Prince Orlofsky with Toronto City Opera. Dr. Cushman spent the Fall at Shenandoah University as a Visiting Artist Professor of Voice. Other recent appearances included the Canadian premiere of Jake Heggie's Camille Claudel: Into the Fire, and the PARMA records album I love you like Spain; songs of Monika Gurak. Dr. Cushman created the role of Jiyan in the 2019 world premiere of Leanna Kirchoff's Friday After Friday. Her 2018 season highlights include Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti and Javotte in Manon for Opera Santa Barbara. Other featured roles include the creation of Firdaus Noman in the world premiere workshop of Perla’s Shalimar the Clown at Cincinnati Opera, and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro for Pittsburgh Festival Opera.
Chelsea holds a DMA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, an MM from the San Francisco Conservatory and a BM from Lawrence University.

Perfect! Dr. Chelsea is extremely knowledgeable and has provided me with a toolset which allows me to problem solve on the go rather than relying solely on an instructor to notice, diagnose, and fix issues i come up against whilst singing.
