About Stephen
I am a professional engineer and project manager who has tutored high school students in mathematics for nearly forty years, off and on. My students have been high school students struggling with geometry, trigonometry, or algebra; I have a knack for helping students overcome their fear of something new and bewildering, and reaching the reality of the simplicity of mathematics. Gentle, patient persistence has been my approach, and it works for me and the tutored individual. Tutoring for trade school students is also available; my father, a journeyman electrician, was my best teacher!

My teaching method starts by understanding the student - not just the student's lack of success with a subject, but by finding what the student does know, where their interests lay. Knowing about where a student is solid in knowledge, and where there is less solid ground, gives me an understanding as to where skills or knowledge need to be developed. Understanding how to approach the student in the game of problem solving is critical to their success; the process of mathematics is the simpler part of teaching.

Travel beyond twenty (20) miles one way will incur a fee of fifty cents per mile ($0.50/mile) for each mile traveled over twenty miles. Mileage charges will only apply one way, not round trip.
