Find out more about Hanna

  • What age did you start dancing? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started with ballet, tap and jazz at around 5 or 6 years old. I was a very easily distracted child so dance helped me focus. I loved the costumes, the lights, the music and immediately fell in love with performing.
  • What are your favourite styles in dance? those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a style that you'd still like to discover?

I've danced in both ballet and contemporary companies and I love the challenges both styles bring. There was a point where I could have chosen to pursue musical theatre but in the end I chose contemporary because my singing voice was a little lacking and I was more curious about contemporary dance styles! A dance style I'd love to try one day is Ballroom.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue dance?

I've been dancing for 25 years, 10 of those professionally and I still find joy and contentment in this career. I'm constantly surprised by how dance continues to challenge and inspire me. I'm motivated to make the dance industry a better place for future generations and believe in a nurturing and flexible approach to each student I teach.
  • Do you have a dancing achievement that you're particularly proud of?

I'm proud of my resilience and drive in continuing despite how difficult the dance industry can be, especially on the other side of a pandemic. Some highlights of my career so far would be touring the UK with Ballet Cymru and getting a contract with my dream company out in Switzerland where I'm fortunate enough to be dancing still.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better dancer?

I think the challenges I've faced as a dancer have taught me resilience and flexibility in my career. I keep open minded, I go outside my comfort zone and I work very hard all of which I'm proud of.
  • If you had to join class with a famous dancer, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

It would have to be Patrick Swayze! I'd love to dance with him and to do the dirty dancing lift of course!
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I'm very passionate about creative approaches to learning. I adapt to the needs of my clients depending on their experience, age and what inspires them. My most valued teachers always taught with kindness, patience and curiosity; I endeavour to do the same.
  • What makes you a Superprof in dance?

Unless we are working on exam preparation, I usually don't follow a syllabus or a rulebook. My classes revolve around your needs and goals. Maybe you have some exercises you've been struggling to pick up or a particular move that you don't understand. That's where I come in. I love getting to the bottom of a correction, dissecting it and building up complexity from there. I prioritise your learning style and adapt to where you're at physically and emotionally. I pride myself on knowing when to push and when to gently nudge! I offer more than private classes, I offer support, advice and mentoring in an ever evolving industry.
