About Barbara
I am a professional Digital artist, electroacoustic composer and singer-songwriter. I have also been managing my own music label for 8 years.
I have been teaching private lessons for 2 years, and is teaching assistant at University of Montreal
I have a bachelor in International Business and Marketing, a Bachelor in Digital Music Composition, and a Masters in Digital Music Composition.

Who is this workshop for?
For anyone curious about sound, all music, music in general, who wants to manufacture, build, examine... (from 12 years old and older).
Should one know the music theory?
Not necessarily. But familiarity with music of various styles can be a great help.
DJ? Electro music?
No ! We will not learn here to be a DJ or to compose "dance-music", "electro" music in the commonly understood sense, or even songs.
Should I know the computer?
It's better if that's the case, but learning can be done at the same time as music research.
Is it necessary to have a computer?
Yes !
A "workshop" rather than a class?
The course takes the form of a practical workshop, listening sessions, critical works.
How does it works ?
Everything happens on the computer, once we've recorded sound elements of all kinds. Editing, transformation, mixing on software designed for this.
No specific software is required. The computer is only a tool, it is the composer who makes the music.
Practically what do we do?
The composer works "with the sounds" that he has most often recorded himself.
He chooses them, assembles them, deforms them, mixes them according to his project, according to his
his intuition, his ideas and desires, gradually builds a music piece.
For those who want it and need it, exercises are proposed which allow to approach at the same time techniques of realization and specific musical proposals.
What musical orientation? What style ?
This is a "musical research" approach: to seek to invent a music beyond the traditional values - heights of notes, regular pulsations, instrumental timbres - without being forbidden all that.
A "music of sounds", in the widest possible sense, a "music of all sounds "as opposed to what we might call obviously too simplified" a music of notes ".
This choice, which apparently seems to shake up the musical uses, is nevertheless part of a tradition of more than a century and rich of a repertoire too little known and which had various names:
