About the lesson

Hi, I’m Keiran. I'm a professional musician and music teacher, and during my six years of private and school teaching, I've learned that every student is different. My methodology is to learn how you learn: working to your strengths and building your weaknesses. If you're a visual learner, let's get your reading going with transcriptions of your favourite tunes. Like to play by ear? Let's isolate and slow the drums in any song and work them out. If you're neurodiverse or exhibit a physical disability, I'll use my experience working in special-provision environments to get you playing in no time. ONLINE - my professional setup allows you to hear my drums in studio quality, as well as music played directly through the Zoom. I can share screen to Dorico (music notation software) and of course any PDF transcriptions I make for you. 1hr lessons include a clip from the lesson, sent to you directly at the end of the day. IN-PERSON - we can set up a second drum kit in my studio so I can play along with you. We can take videos directly to your phone so you have all you need to practise until the next lesson. Lessons can be 30 mins or 1 hour. In my lessons, it’s important that we have a good time and that you leave further down the path than where we started. We work at your pace, and we move forward patiently and tenaciously. I’m a huge advocate for learning without judgement, and I embody this in my practice. BEGINNER lessons include: - intro/refresher of the drum kit and its main roles in music - essential grooves and fills to get you playing to your favourite tunes - tips on technique for comfortable playing INTERMEDIATE lessons include: - co-ordination and rudiment exercises - developed styles and intro to odd time signatures - focus on improvisation and developing your sound ADVANCED lessons include: - focus on non-judgemental analysis to develop self-guided practice - university-level techniques and co-ordination exercises - internalised metronome and deliberate musicianship
