About Chris

I'm Chris, a private tutor based in Norwich offering GCSE and A-Level tuition in Maths and Physics, both online and in person. I hold a PhD in Particle Physics and a PGCE in Secondary Physics and Maths, and I’ve spent over half a decade working in the higher education and research sector.

My background spans scientific research, technical development, and education - giving me a deep understanding of how people learn and how to explain complex ideas clearly. Over the years, I’ve taught and mentored students at secondary school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, always with a focus on building understanding and confidence.

I believe strongly that learning is a process of exploration, and that making mistakes is not only normal - it's essential. My lessons are calm, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs. Whether you're aiming to push for top grades or looking to get to grips with the basics, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward.

I’m also DBS-cleared, so you can be assured of a safe and professional tutoring environment.

About the lesson

I offer personalised tutoring in Maths and Physics at both GCSE and A-Level, tailored to each student's goals, confidence level, and learning style.

Every lesson is built around:
• Clear, structured explanations that break down complex topics step by step.
• Active engagement: I ask questions throughout to check understanding and encourage deeper thinking.
• Exam success: I place a strong focus on past paper practice, exam technique, and how to interpret mark schemes.
• Progress tracking: I regularly review and adapt our plan to ensure you're always moving forward.

One of the most important lessons I share with students is that making mistakes is not a setback - it’s part of the process. In my experience, real progress happens when students feel safe to try, stumble, and learn. We use those moments as stepping stones to build deep understanding and lasting confidence.

As a tutor with a PhD in Particle Physics and a PGCE, I combine subject expertise with a solid foundation in how people learn. Whether you're aiming to build confidence or secure top grades, I support you with patience, encouragement, and clear, focused guidance.

• in-person in the Norwich area (home visits available within NR4 and surrounding areas)
• or Online (via Google Meet)
