About Tai Long
My passion for helping others become the best version of themselves extends beyond the realm of just tutoring. I have a wide array of experience in being a private tutor, private and contracted competitive swimming coach, strength and conditioning coach, and a high-performance coach. What I think has contributed to excelling in each of these positions is my emphasis on building a relationship with each of my clients/students/athletes individually. A little bit about me; I am a sophomore computer science student at Princeton University as well as an athlete on the division 1 men's swimming and diving team. I am also pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship and finance. In high school, I excelled in all core subjects, with an emphasis on the advanced maths and sciences. Having gone through the mind-numbing process of college applications, college app essays, SAT prep, admission emails, etc..., I offer a fresh, unique solution to help guide and prepare my students to navigate these complex processes.

More specific to tutoring, what I offer is an out-of-the-box solution to the homogenous problem of the current education system. Instead of tackling a problem head-on, I break it up into digestible bits for the student. In my experience, I've found that it's important for a student to achieve little victories as that translates into building confidence with a type of problem, and also keeps the student motivated to continue learning. My relationship with the student transcends the traditional teacher/student dynamic; I always ask to meet with my students a few days before our first scheduled lesson. There a couple of reasons for this: I want to get to know my student first. I want to learn how they learn. And I want to understand why they are having difficulties or not enjoying a certain discipline. Having this window between the meeting and the first lesson gives me ample time to plan how we're going to fill any learning gaps. And gauge in what ways can we optimize the learning experience to ensure a richer understanding, and more importantly, enjoying to learn. My teaching philosophy is that every problem in the world can be broken down into sequential components. I strive to teach and develop the intuition needed to break up any problem into 3 steps: Identifying what the problem is asking? What are the methods we know for approaching such problems? And when do we implement these solutions? In essence, the underlying principle I teach is problem-solving. And as an extension, critical thinking.

Tai was one of the best tutors I’ve ever had for physics!! I had him during the summer because I wanted to get familiar with the content before starting my classes- he taught the theories and functions to me in a way that was super easy to understand and helped me through all the problems I had help with. I seriously recommend him to anyone who’s taking physics and feel like they’re struggling because he will definitely help :)
Thai is very professional and helped me in a timely manner. Also was effective in helping me understand the topics at hand. The way that he taught was catered to me and my learning abilities. All around a great guy and working with you was fun and enjoyable. and i highly recommend thai to anyone in need of a physics tutor.
MattTai Long was a great teacher as he does not believe in cutting corners; if I was lacking understanding, he would guide me through it and help me not only find solutions, but also understand it. He was very easy to connect with and it vastly improved my overall learning experience. I had a very difficult schedule to accommodate but Tai Long was extremely flexible in helping accommodate my needs.Highly recommend.
