About Karen

I currently teach advanced chemistry at a small liberal arts college, where I have earned two division honors for outstanding teaching. My experience has covered many different scientific disciplines as both a professor and a researcher. I am adaptable as an educator and passionate about learning new things and helping others understand complex subjects. My main interests include analytical, environmental, and organic synthesis. All of these require a solid understanding of general chemistry principles. I credit my ability to adapt and learn new material to the strong foundation I developed during my undergrad years. As a student I was blessed to have outstanding professors and mentors along the way. I strive to pay it forward by assisting the next generation of chemical professionals on their journey .

About the lesson

My approach when I tutor new chemistry students is to find the problem spots and work at rebuilding any cracks in foundational knowledge. Once we lay down a solid base, it is easy to build on more complex concepts. Chemistry cannot be memorized, it must be navigated using critical reasoning skills. This requires a solid understanding of chemical behavior and concepts. My students value my ability to break difficult subject matter down into easier to understand processes by using analogies and examples. I am very patient and will approach a subject in several different directions until one makes sense to the student. While most of my students have been undergraduates in college, I have worked with high school and graduate college students, depending on the subject. My motto is "think like a chemist."

I am in my 3rd year of medical school and Prof Glenn is definitely one of the reasons. She taught me for both General and Analytical Chemistry and helped lay a great foundation of chemical sciences that prepared me for the rigor of the MCAT and medical school. Her teaching techniques are versatile and she really ensures that students understand and did not mind taking the time to provide extra help. It was an absolute pleasure learning with her.

Ms Karen Glenn is my all time favorite instructor. She has the patience to evaluate and meet each student at their level of understanding. Then she can coach the student to discover their hidden aptitude! I truly believe thousands of students would have been left behind without Karen's teaching abilities. I feel so blessed to have found Karen Glenn.

Karen is an excellent teacher of all things chemistry. Her approach to teaching is focused on your learning potential and success; she truly wants to see you achieve your goals. If you’re looking for someone to teach/tutor you that will make you feel ten times more confident in your chemistry stuff than when you started, look no further! She was my analytical chemistry professor and I personally had my best chemistry semesters working with her and HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you take her!! Her classes are extremely well structured and easy to follow. And even if the content is challenging she will make sure you know 1. What tools are available to help you and 2. How to use them properly. She’ll make you a better student all around. Seriously, highly recommend.
