About Alena

I am a postgraduate from the University of Oxford in Statistical Science and have a first-class BSc in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Warwick.

Having myself achieved 3A* at A-levels in Mathematics, Further Maths and Physics and 10A* at GCSE, and having tutored mathematics at all levels up to A-level, as an employee for a tutoring business, a private tutor, a mentor at school to younger students and as a volunteer, I know the maths syllabuses extremely well and what needs to be practiced to achieve the highest grades.

I am based in North London and willing to travel to students’ homes. I am currently working as an Actuary in London, so would be available to teach in the evenings or weekends. Having taken some time off tutoring to focus on my Actuarial career, I am tutoring again and have recently helped a GCSE student achieve an 8 in Maths after having been predicted a 4, through a very short period of time (3 x 2-hour sessions).

About the lesson

My classes revolve around my student's needs and what they want to work on. I base my lessons on going through examples, practising problems and progressively working up to harder ones. Past papers are important too as well as covering the entire curriculum.

I have known Alena from a very young age. Alena is a very professional young person who has always achieved the best results throughout her education. In June 2022 she tutored my teenage daughter GCSE Maths and they spent several 2-3 hour intensive 1-to-1. sessions with my daughter in preparing her for GCSE exam and helping her revise accordingly and thoroughly.
Alena has excellent listening and communication skills and she gives plenty of time to her students to digest the information and instructions and she has a lot of skills in conveying and imparting knowledge into her students. My daughter felt confident and ready to sit the exam and she achieved score 8 although she was given predicted 6. I can only put it down to Alena's ability to ensure that the person she tutors can achieve their best potential.
I don't have any hesitation in recommending Alena for tutoring.
