About Tanya

About me Hi, I'm Tanya, and I am currently studying Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. As a student who studied both GCSEs and IB, I have had a lot of experience with subjects within the humanities, the arts and social sciences. I have had the opportunity to be a tutor and peer mentor for GCSE Psychology, Business Studies and English Literature. Thus, I have had a lot of experience understanding how to ensure that students are able to understand the complex concepts they could be struggling with in a normal classroom environment.

How will we run each session? The main aim of each session is to ensure that you are confident and comfortable with each topic, and in order to do this, you will have the opportunity to discuss what you would like to learn in each session. Tutorials in English and French are typically student led, which means that you have the opportunity to work on your language and perception skills - this is especially useful practice for the unseen texts section of English exams. I typically do a PowerPoint for each session, and will transcribe the key notes and points we have discussed, which I send to you at the end of the session. That way, you are able to understand the concepts fully, and have a nice handout which can be used as a revision tool! Of course, I am completely open to ensuring that you have the most effective tutoring session possible, and would love to incorporate your preferences into each session.

What about university applications and essays? After completing university applications for both the UK (via UCAS) and US (via CommonApp), I have had the chance to get an understanding of the ways in which you can appeal to admissions officers. At the same time, I am available to do checks on your personal statements and essays, to help you ensure that they are concise and depict your true passion for your subject. I am happy to look at any extended writing for projects (such as the Extended Essay) or academic writing. Since finishing my IB Diploma, I have developed key skills needed for extended writing, and can show you how to make sure your work is ready for submission.
