About Emmaleigh

Hi! I'm Emmaleigh Mitchell, a Political Science student at 2nd year UW–Madison with a passion for helping students understand government, civics, and political systems. I tutor middle and high school students in Civics, U.S. Government, and AP Government. I know how overwhelming political topics can feel, so I focus on clear explanations, real-world examples, and patient, thoughtful support. I bring both academic knowledge and curiosity to every session and create a space where questions are highly encouraged and developing the skills for the students to come their own understandings on this topic has the highest importance.

About the lesson

As a political science student at UW–Madison, I focus on making government and civics easy to understand for middle and high school students. My lessons begin with a quick check-in to see what you’re struggling with, followed by clear explanations and real-life examples. I don’t lecture, instead, I ask questions, break down ideas step by step, and encourage you to think critically about how systems like the Electoral College and the foundations of political institutions actually function.

I aim to keep lessons nonpartisan and focused on how political systems work not what to think about them. That said, if you're interested in exploring party politics, ideology, or policy debates, I can help you build the skills to analyze where different political values come from and how to understand the goals of various groups. I’ll always meet you where you’re at and help you grow from there.

These lessons are great for anyone in Civics, U.S. Government, or AP Gov (examples of class material I can work with) who wants real understanding not just memorization. I don't tutor for the test but I can teach you a grounded and nuanced understanding of concepts, how to apply them, and break them down. I also will teach the intersectionality of these concepts and how they affect one another.

I also work with Game Theory, Public Policy. I can also review policy memo's and op-eds. I can also discuss topics in regards to international relations in the East Asian region.
