About Dianne

I began playing the piano by ear, at the tender age of 3. My mother insisted on me taking classics at school from Std 2, and this resulted in my obtaining my Grade 8 Theory and Practical Diplomas (through Unisa), whilst still at school. I thereafter completed my B.Mus at Unisa. Shortly after leaving school I also formed my own band and began writing material for it. In 1985 I got married and started a family which took me away from my intended musical career and into the law field, for which I also had an extreme passion. I remained in the law field for 23 years and retired from same in 2010, in order to revisit my musical career. DiaMand Creations has been operating successfully now for nearly 10 years. I have a student base of 50 students. My lessons are highly customized and personalized to suit each individual student's musical needs and level. The students all go away feeling rejuvenated after each session and some of them have remained on (after having successfully learnt to play the piano), for over 2 years. I have sterling references available upon request, from all the students whom I have taught to date, which speaks volumes. Approximately 250 students have passed through my studio within 2 years and all have gone on to pursue musical careers. I have all the patience in the world when it comes to teaching and to me the greatest reward I can achieve, is seeing my students' smiling faces when they have managed to complete a piece beautifully. Lessons can be conducted either online or in person.

I have my own method of teaching which has rendered superb results thus far. All lessons are customized and personalized, making it possible for anyone to learn to play both hands after only 1 hour.) Why not give yourself (or a loved one) a gift that keeps on giving?? DiaMand Creations is the place to be if you have the desire to learn to play the piano quickly and stress-free. I provide students with a one-on-one, personalized and customized session each lesson, according to each student’s musical needs and level. Online or in-person lessons are offered. I have devised my own personal method of teaching and as such, am the only teacher in South Africa using that particular method, which has seen many happy and satisfied students pass through DiaMand Creations, over the years. I began playing the piano from the tender age of 3 and later took classical lessons at school. Before leaving school, I had completed Grade 8 Theory and Practical through Unisa and then went on to obtain my B.Mus at Unisa in 1985. Apart from being an outstanding musician at school, I also started writing music and playing in a band which later formed. I thereafter got married and started a family. When the children were old enough, I decided to join the law field, for which I had had the passion for and necessary skills, since a teenager. After 23 years in such field, I retired in order to rekindle my music career, and formed DiaMand Creations, as many many people constantly request me to teach them how to play, like I did and still do. An abundant supply of patience coupled with a friendly, relaxed environment in which to learn, as well as state of the art equipment and highly professional tuition, is what a student will experience when attending lessons at DiaMand Creations. Lessons at DiaMand Creations are quite affordable when compared to the rates offered by most schools/colleges and other private tutors. References from over 60 students are available upon request. I only take on students who are serious about learning and who will commit. Please contact me via SuperProf and provide me with your Whatsapp number, so that I may answer any questions you may have, in a Whatsapp audio call, and make your musical dreams, a reality.

Details

Lessons are one hour in length. During this time, students receive their personally transcribed pieces, prepared by me, together with the transcription’s MP3 recording to assist with practice. If requested, a video recording of the lesson can also be made and sent afterwards via WhatsApp.

Music theory is incorporated naturally within the practical lesson to ensure students develop a solid understanding without becoming overwhelmed, keeping the focus on enjoying the process of learning music.

For students who book double lessons, a short interlude is provided in between where they may enjoy a coffee, tea, cool drink, and a light snack.

All lesson material is carefully prepared in my own personal time to ensure each student receives tailored and well-structured content.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I was 3 years old when my mother realised that I was gifted musically. She bought a little tape recorder and played tapes next to the piano while I sat and worked out the correct notes. My first piece was "Little Red Donkey" and I worked it out perfectly she later told me. So piano was then and still is to this day my favourite instrument.
  • Is there a particular type of music or an artist that you could happily listen to on a loop?

I have a love for artists who write music that is theoretically correct and not artists who are here today and gone tomorrow. So, having said that, I would have to say, Elton John, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Queen, Freddie Mercury, Abba, Carpenters, Frank Sinatra etc. Musicians who have stood the test of time and whose music one can always be related to and referred back to.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think the piano probably would be the most complicated - if you want to play all the genres available on it - and also if you really want to master classical music and become a concert pianist.
  • What are your keys to success (aside from do re mi fa sol ...)?

I have devised my own method of teaching, bearing in mind that I started playing by ear at the age of 3, then took classics at school, obtained my teaching licentiate whilst still at school, then after that my B.Mus at Unisa. Nobody wants to go the long route that I had to go in order to get where I am today. I have taken all those years of experience and put it in a nice little sushi roll - gift wrapped. My method ensures that anybody who has never played before and has no musical experience whatsoever, leaves my studio playing a piece of their choice, with both hands together, and without needing to waste time with scales and unnecessary theory from the start.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting on a night out, and explain why.

Patrizio Buanne, I think he has an amazing voice and his pieces are absolutely beautiful. Peter Bence, is probably the best pianist in the world and doesn't just use his piano in the way it was built. He adds acoustics to it and even uses its strings in order to add more to his pieces. It is hard to explain how he plays so I suggest one googles him in order to see this guy play. I also love Liberace, he was probably the best in his day even with those short little fingers. I love Joshua Burniece, another well-known pianist who is so humble and can play Michael Jackson songs on the piano amazingly well.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I was entered into a piano competition which was solely for students who were able to read music, as I couldn't read, my mother decided to teach me to play the requisite piece by ear. I learnt it by ear, even learnt when to turn the page. When I had to perform on stage at the competition, I was only 6 years old and appeared before a very well-known musician and teacher of an academy here in Cape Town called "Charles Segal". He said he was giving me the floating trophy for my performance that evening but wanted to ask me about something he'd found very strange. He said that he noticed when I played my piece, I turned the page at the precise moment it needed to be turned, BUT, that the book was upside down. Hehehehehehhehee. My first time on stage and probably the MOST embarrassing.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I am very generous when it comes to preparing all my students' lessons. I give them exactly what they want and in a manner, I know will be easy for them to understand and tackle, no matter their age or level. Preparing for these lessons are done in my own personal time and I don't cut corners. If I need 3 hours to prepare a specific piece for a student, then 3 hours is what I will set aside for such a purpose. Students are always telling me that they are amazed at how much passion, patience and generosity they are given by me, each time they attend their lessons.
